ABOUT US
About the Director
Jarrod Coutts – Managing Director & Kaitiaki
I live with my wife Laura in Methven, a small alpine town in Mid Canterbury, New Zealand. I work full-time as an Outdoor Education and Physical Education teacher, while Laura is a General Practitioner who cares for the health and wellbeing of the local community. Methven is our home — a place that reflects our shared love of community, sport, and the outdoors.
I grew up in Nelson and was introduced to croquet in 2003 by my intermediate school teacher, Neil Seagar. After leaving Nelson, I spent four years living in Christchurch while studying at the University of Canterbury and training as a teacher. I then spent two years in the United Kingdom, based in Suffolk, where I played croquet extensively and travelled throughout the UK and Europe. In 2016, I returned to New Zealand and settled in Methven.
I have been involved in croquet for more than 20 years as a player, coach, manager, and volunteer at both national and international levels. My personal highlights from the game are not defined solely by results, but by the friendships and opportunities that croquet has given me, through the support of our croquet community. I am deeply committed to helping grow the sport — its precision, its culture, and its future.
Together, Laura and I are proud to be the new kaitiaki (guardians and stewards) of Quadway. We are committed to honouring the brand’s legacy while carefully guiding its evolution. Through the support of our croquet community, our ambition is to grow Quadway into a broader family of high-quality croquet products, with a long-term vision of becoming a trusted one-stop shop for croquet in Aotearoa (New Zealand) and around the world. Grounded in community, innovation, and a deep respect for the game, we are focused on building a strong, sustainable future for croquet equipment globally.
Our Values
Kaitiakitanga (Guardianship and Stewardship)
At Quadway, we honour the legacy entrusted to us. As kaitiaki (guardians and stewards), Jarrod and Laura continue the work begun by Ray Atkins and sustained by Mike McClure, protecting the craft, engineering integrity, and spirit of croquet. Kaitiakitanga is more than ownership — it is responsibility, care, and long-term commitment.
Innovation
Quadway was founded on ingenuity, and that mindset continues to guide us forward. Guided by Kaizen (continuous improvement), innovation at Quadway is not a one-off breakthrough, but a daily discipline — refining our designs through precision engineering, modern manufacturing partnerships, and thoughtful iteration. By honouring tradition while improving upon it, we shape equipment that sets new standards for the future of croquet.
Connection
At Quadway, connection is built on trust — between players, clubs, and the equipment they rely on. Through clear, open communication and consistently reliable performance, we ensure players understand what they are using and why it works. When equipment performs exactly as expected, it creates a seamless link between intention and outcome, allowing players to connect more deeply with the game itself.
Excellence
Excellence is the standard, not the reward. It has defined Quadway from the beginning and continues to guide every decision we make — from engineering tolerances to customer experience. Built into every hoop, every interaction, and every detail, excellence ensures precision, reliability, and performance players can trust at every level of the game.

Paddy Chapman
Quadway is proud to be represented by Paddy Chapman, one of New Zealand’s most accomplished and widely respected croquet players. Born and raised in Canterbury, Paddy spent several years living and competing in the United Kingdom before returning home in 2021. He now lives in Morrinsville, Waikato, with his wife Miranda — also an accomplished croquet player — and their two children. With more than 25 years in the sport, croquet is truly in Paddy’s blood.
Paddy’s career reflects Kaizen (continuous improvement) — a lifelong commitment to refining performance, deepening understanding, and evolving alongside the game. While his achievements include becoming the 2018 World Champion, multiple New Zealand Open and Top Invitation titles, and victories at the British Open and President’s Cup, his defining highlight was playing a pivotal role in New Zealand’s victory at the 2014 MacRobertson Shield — the pinnacle of world croquet. That success was underpinned by an uncompromising standard of excellence.
It is a genuine privilege to have someone of Paddy’s insight, humility, and experience contributing to Quadway’s research and design process. As a Quadway ambassador, Paddy brings a relentless pursuit of improvement and a benchmark of performance that helps set standards for the future of croquet.
Edmund Fordyce
Quadway is proud to be represented by Edmund Fordyce, one of New Zealand’s most technically gifted croquet players. Quadway has had the privilege of witnessing Edmund’s journey from an early age, first meeting him as a 10-year-old aspiring player and following his development through to the highest levels of the sport.
Edmund embodies kaitiakitanga (guardianship and stewardship) through the way he represents the game internationally — sharing knowledge, mentoring players, and respecting the traditions and integrity of croquet wherever he competes. After completing a commerce degree, he took his expertise overseas and now works as a professional croquet player and coach in North Carolina at Highlands Country Club.
Through his international career, Edmund has built strong connections across the global croquet community. His achievements include becoming an Under-21 World Champion, winning a Golf Croquet World Teams Championship, and securing multiple New Zealand titles. As a Quadway ambassador, Edmund brings professionalism, perspective, and a global outlook that strengthens the game in Aotearoa and abroad, while helping open new pathways for connection, development, and the future of croquet.
History
Quadway Hoops began in 2012, when Ray Atkins (Christchurch, New Zealand), supported by design insight and performance feedback from Chris Clarke (Christchurch, New Zealand), set out to create a croquet hoop that delivered greater consistency, durability, and reliability at tournament level. The original design — first known as Atkins Hoops — was trialled at the 2013 New Zealand Open, where it received immediate and overwhelmingly positive feedback from players in New Zealand and overseas.
Shortly after, the hoops became known as Quadway Hoops and made their international debut at the 2013–14 MacRobertson Shield, hosted in New Zealand. From that point, Quadway’s reputation grew rapidly. Today, Quadway is regarded as the gold standard of croquet hoops worldwide and is the required standard for all Croquet New Zealand–affiliated events, with widespread use at World Croquet Federation–sanctioned tournaments.
In 2018, Ray sold the Quadway business to Mike McClure (Nelson, New Zealand — also owner of Terminator Mallets), who continued to refine the manufacturing process and uphold the standards that defined the brand. Under Mike’s stewardship, Quadway strengthened its global presence, with hoops now used in more than a dozen countries around the world.
In 2024, Quadway entered a new chapter when Mike passed the business to Jarrod Coutts. As the new kaitiaki (guardian and steward) of the brand, Jarrod is committed to honouring the legacy built by Ray and Mike and guiding the brand’s continued evolution. Supported by the international croquet community, Quadway delivers high-quality croquet equipment to players all over the world — from beginners learning the game to the world’s elite.
